Bullying Awareness Week has just finished up, and we spent a lot of time talking about types of bullying, roles people play in a bullying situation and what we can do to stop it.

Today, we looked at the Kid’s Help Phone website:

It has lots of information about bullying, and you can connect with counsellors through the site. 

Your need to create a Public Service Announcement to raise awareness about bullying – it can be in the form of a poster or a paragraph read over the morning announcements.  You can download the outline and rubric for the assignment by clicking here.

Remembrance Day

You did a fabulous job on our song today. Several teacher commented on how well you did.  Way to go.

Next week is Bullying Awareness Week – We are going to talk about how to make sure our school is a safe and caring place for everyone.

Very good day today. We read a very powerful book about acceptance called ‘The Other Side’. You wrote about how the book shows acceptance, and why the author wrote it – but we didn’t ask you if you liked it.  What did you think?

We had a good day today. We began our unit on Measurement, and we are continuing to talk about Acceptance in Language. 

On Friday, we are going to sing ‘A Pittance of Time’ by Terry Kelly during the Remembrance Day ceremony.   Here is a link to the story behind the song:

What a busy week we have had!  This week we:

• learned abou the elements of music and how they change the mood of a piece of music.
• Tempo
• Dynamics
• Texture
• Timbre
• Metre
• Style
• Pitch
• We also began working on the theme of Acceptance.  We defined acceptance as:
• including others
• being ok with people who are different
• not judging someone before you get to know them
• being willing to accept people who are different and to change your own ideas about things
• standing up for people even if you’re going against the crowd
• trying to understand how people feel.

You have done a great job talking about acceptance and giving examples from books and your own experience.

We had a lot of fun today!  From pumpkin muffins to pumpkin carving and spooky Halloween poems – we celebrated this tradition in style.

Today we learned that there might be a glimmer of hope for the residents of Kanata who don’t want to have the Beaver Pond forest cut down.  Here is a link to the news story from CBC we watched today:

Today we started writing letters to the city councillor, the developer, and to the Minister of Natural Resources for the province of Ontario.  We hope they listen to us.
